Simplenote - Notes and Memos App Reviews

Great App, Sorry Windows!

I work day to day on both Mac and PCs, one of my all time favorite apps is Simplenote! The desktop client for OSX makes typing up a few cloud based notes quick. I dont need bells and whistles like Evernote or Google Docs... I just need a simple application that replaces "notepad.exe" and can be accessed between PC, Mac, and even Linux! The one downside to Simplenote for iOS is... No Markdown support... granted; parsing markdown and displaying a DOM on an iOS application could be a little complicated! Dispite the lack of t his feature, I still love it. PLEASE devs if you read this, put Markdown support on your milestones!

Best Simple Note Syncing App for IOS <-> OSX

I have tried many many products in this space, from rolling my own text files in dropbox to dedicated shopping list or todo apps. This one is the simplest, most reliable of them all. If you need to store notes and get them from any Apple device, this is the way to go. I see other reviews that complain “Cloud is bad” uhm.. I think they are missing the point. Don’t put your secrets here, but this is prefect for grocery lists, todos, etc. Especially for sharing within the family.

Simplenote review, this Application is better than Awesome

Use simplenote to keep track of anything and everything with words, websites, notes, todo lists. I use simplenote everyday and it syncs effortlessly with NVAlt, another excellent program. One of my favorite features is the ability to save a website or document with a few simple clicks or gestures. With the browser extension, one click, and it quickly saves content for reading later. Thanks to the authors for making my academic life so much easier. An awesome program. I have difficulty understanding why anyone give this App a low rating, oh well. I will continue using it for a long time in the future. Simple, easy to use, effortless notes, websites saves, document saves, and much more. Authors! don’t change a thing. It’s perfect.

Useful app

The is a great app overall. I use it to keep organized and to cooridnate outside of work. I end up using Evernote for work because of the additional functionality, but I can still justify using both. Worth the money in my opinion.

I would like to recommend this app!

It’s extremely simple, and convenient. Whenever I turn on this app, I can write down whatever I want and close whenever I dont need it. It will save all the staffs I’ve written. It’s really fast. It also takes little storage to run this app. I love it!

Need to be able to add pictures

One things apple allows in their “notes” app: you can drop pictures into a note from the desk top or any other location, which can be very handy to look at later on your iphone. Please add this in a future update! It would be awesome if you could make folders to categorize all of your notes.

Good, but missing a crucial tweak

If you guys would add the ‘dark mode’ that you’ve released for iPhone, this would be a perfect desktop companion. Other than that, zero complaints. LOVE the simplicity and powerful sync function across devices. Thanks, SImplenote team.

Lists please

I like this app. It’s the closest alternative I could find to the Notes app, which I gave up using after all my notes disappeared from my phone and could not be recovered. The one essential feature that’s missing though is the ability to create lists. This is an essential. I can do without the other formating options but I need the bullet points to be inserted automatically.

Good service. App needs menu try quick menu.

Great service I’ve been using for years. I always preferred the JustNotes app with Simplenote because it had a quick access icon on the menu tray that would quickly open the app and let you start typing a new note. JustNotes doesn’t work anymore, so I’ve moved to the Simplenote app…but I really miss the quick menu tray access.

A solid notes app but could use a couple tweaks

I’ve been using Simplenote for a couple years now and it has become my favorite note taking app by far. Its simple, intuitive interface makes it a breeze to add notes, search for notes, or browse your notes. They have apps for your iPhone and iPad and syncing is seamless, making it the perfect quick note taker on the go. Unlike other apps, they provide a built in syncing system so you’re not required to have a Dropbox account. Overall I’m pretty happy with it. However there is always room for improvement which is why I am writing this review. 1) Please add the ability to hide the notes list in the Mac app. I use Simplenote for personal and work notes, which means when I’m at the office with my screen visible to multiple people, or even using a projector, and I need to look up a note, I don’t want my colleagues seeing my personal notes about which wines I should buy or my date planning. 2) Please provide a way to export the notes from within the app. TXT files would be great. 3) The sync gets a little wonky when I’m typing fast and cutting/pasting paragraphs. If I do it too quickly, the sync overwrites what’s on the screen and blocks of text get put in weird places so I end up having to use the Undo command to return it to a legible state then make my changes again more slowly.

Too Simple

This app is too simple to be useful. If you look at the version, it’s been 17 revisions since evan a minor feature update (downloaded 8+months ago). Here’s the thing. This is nice for taking a note or two, but it isn’t useful anywhere but on iOS and Mac. They are working with the most basic of basic… TEXT. Plain, raw, unformatted… Text. The simplest of computer data, and yet the dev made an app to lock it away! It’s not even useful on the web. Once you put it in here, get ready to copy and paste it out the old fashioned way, because you can’t share it to anything else to manipulate it further. Simple is nice, but this goes too far. It needs a web interface, and more platform support. Then it needs folders (or notebooks, or some equivalent), Sharing, Tagging. In other words, it needs a lot before it will become useful for anything more than shoving your text into a gym locker.

Favorite App, but recently pretty crashy.

Love the app. Have used it as a scratchpad for the past two years. Lately, it’s just been a little crashy. It’s usually fine. Hopefully this gets fixed up soon! I would happily pay for this app & service if that was a future business model!

Good features; does not detect RTL

This app has solid features rarely found in other apps. Problem is that it does not detect right-to-left languages. It keeps text aligned left with no options to align text right. Even if I align it right on the iOS version, it does not sync or keep that preference.

For free!!! I like it!

Right, it is simple and just notes. I don’t think it’s meant to be the “be-all”/“end-all” of note taking. But, for fast short-term notes from one device to another it is great. And, it is FREE… did you get that? Uh, FREE! So, what’s not to like? Just one thing I can see (pun intended) is that the font is so friggin’ small it is really hard to use. If they could just either increase the font size or give the option to make the font any size you like it would be wonderful. But, for FREE I can live with it.

Awesome

i’ve been using this at least for 3 years and it’s still the best!

Almost perfect

I love Simplenot and use it to organize my business and work ideas, lists and to-dos. However, the one thing it’s missing is the ability to make simple text formats like bold, italic and underline. Some of my lists are very long and I would like to be able to use bold or underline to help segment and organize. Would also be great if the main titles of each note could be color coded. Other than those small things, this app is great. I love that it syncs to my phone and I can make edits on the go.

great replacement for Notes

Simple on the surface, but tags, collaboration and sharing make it secretly a lot more powerful than Apple’s native Notes app. The fact that it only supports plain text is a plus, not a minus. Only negative I can think of: sync doesn’t happen in the background. If you make a change offline (in the subway, in my case), that change doesn’t get synced until you OPEN the app while connected to the network. Notes, by contrast, takes advantage of iCloud background syncing to sync in the background on its own.

Huge miss: markdown support

I really wish this app had support for displaying markdown. That would make it absolutely worthwhile to use. As it stands, it’s only a good tool to use if you are not Apple only, and thus can’t use Notes.app everywhere. This was a big misstep, and I can’t rate the app any higher until they correct it.

finally

i spend most of my work time in meetings, and until recently had tried every note taking, action tracking app i could find, but none provided what i needed and i persevered with my paper based system. then i found simplenote. simplenote is very straightforward and provides almost everything that i need; anything else i can add myself with a little bit of python. i now have a system where once i tag a note as “complete”, its detected by a scheduled python job and quickly parsed. any line beginning with “>” is sent to omnifocus where i track my actions, any word prefixed with “@“ or “#” is tagged for reference in simplenote, and finally a copy is sent to evernote to be archived. all automatically. works beautifully, and only took me a few hours one weekend to get working. now i can use the beautiful user interface on simplenote to document meetings, actions etc, and know that it will be immediately parsed and forwarded to two other great apps that i also use. without question the best app in the store, and i’ve bought all of them. also the cheapest !

Really great for syncing notes across all devices

I tried a bunch of the note syncing apps and found this to be the perfect balance of simplicity and reliability. I run it on all my devices and it syncs instantly. I would give it 6 stars if I could!
