Simplenote - Notes and Memos App Reviews

95 Customer Reviews:

Looks promising, but crashes a lot.

This application crashes a fair bit for me at the moment, but it looks like it will be a great alternative to Notational Velocity.

Great way to keep notes on different computers (desktop / laptop / web), across different users (personal / work) and on your iOS devices. Running in the menu bar and having a global shortcut would make this a 5 star app for my use.

Simple Note

The name itself. Very easy to use.

This app strikes the perfect balance between simplicity and efficiency. It’s a better version of Apple’s no-frills Notes.app. Tagging is a much better way of organizing notes than putting them in folders. However it’s very annoying to have to repeatedly sign in every time the computer is woken up from sleep mode. Other apps manage to stay logged in just fine, so I’m not sure why Simplenote is having trouble with this.

No font size option

How can you not include font size option? A great app destroyed by eye strain.

As a long time Notational Velocity user, This app is good, but just does not compare. I love the really simple interface, feels exactly like the web based design when I check out my notes off the simplenote website. That familiarity is really important. However the search does not really find the notes that I am most interested in. As a user that doesnt go thru the hassle of "tagging" my notes, the search as a result doesnt give me the notes I want. Notational Velocity gives me everything with the proper terms. The other thing, I dont seem to find anyway to secure the local cached copy of my notes. Notational Velocity allows me to encrypt my local copy. I didnt experience any crashing using this app though, as basically functions like the website. I will continue to look at the updated version of this app..

I understand the “minimalist” thing, but why no basic formatting? This makes it harder to organize my content into hierarchies, which forces me to go back to the same old bloated applications that apps like this purport to answer.

This is a very clean and simple way to create and edit notes and uses very low memory in comparison to gigantic apps like Evernote. I love that I can sync between devices. The editing options are very minimal though, I would love to have at least some rich text formatting features (bold, italics, underline). There is also an issue of me emptying my trash on mobile but all the notes are still there on desktop (not a big deal but it’s been a bug for awhile now).

I definitely love its simplicity in terms of appearance, but I don’t think that means it has to be so simple in terms of its functionality. Don’t get me wrong. I love the simplicity and the tagging, but these could be a little more functional. Here is what would earn it 5 stars for me: - Allow some basic formatting. I agree with other users on this one. - Allow basic attachments, even just pdfs and photos would be fine. - Allow more than just one-word tags. I get around this by adding a hyphen, ex. “stocks-sold”. But I would prefer individual tags like “stocks” and “sold” to … - Allow me filter to my results by being able to choose more than one tag. This could be done by allowing me to Cmd-click (on Mac) or double-tap (on iOS) in the left column on the tags I want to see. For example, Cmd-click/double-tap on “stocks” and then Cmd-click/double-tap on “sold” to see just those stocks that I’ve sold. (Does this make sense? Sort of like being able to Cmd-click on different photos in a photo browser to individually select just those photos I want to export or make a change to.)

The name says it all. It’s simply the best simple not app. Evernote was far too complicated as was every other app I’ve tried. AND SIMPLENOTE IS FREE!!! The iOS app has a passcode feature which is perfect. It syncs with the Mac version although I cannot find the passcode feature on the Mac version. Please keep simplenote simple. 3 ideas. 1. add a passcode to the Mac version 2. Perhaps the ability to drag or paste a graphic and/or take a photo 3. To add a reminder or appointment that would pop up. Perhaps these last 2 wishes could be on a pro version.

I would love for this beautiful app to become my main note app, but I can’t access it system-wide and quickly add a new note. A quick-add box (with area for text, tags) that pops up when you type a system-wide shortcut would be amazing. Next to that, just being able to bring the app to the front with a system-wide shortcut would be a good first step. Other than the speed of which I can add/access notes, this app is fantastic.

Distraction-Free Mode

The app is nice to have, its power is in its simplicity. You can reach your notes in all platforms as SimpleNote but not in Windows. For mac and phone I use SN. I prefer ResophNotes in Windows but there are other programs also.

Great app

Simplenote is good, but application launch takes too much time (about 5 seconds). It’s too long for a note app!

Bad height for russian letters.

Could you please change font for Russian?

MIbori Shante v1.0.3 · 12 years ago

Please add font zooming feature! I hurt my eyes while watching at notes in this app. It has base font size about 4-5 points smaller than most of the other text apps. This is the only thing why its unusable for me. I prefer other note apps which dont force me to stare my screen at extremely small distances. Overall, nice clean little app. Relatively flawless sync. Enough air and space. Wish the background was a little less bright. Tags search — nice. Fast operation. Just useless for me by now, as I stated before. Give it 4 stars in hope that you will add font size selection, and optimal variant will be with font family+style and custom colour themes as well. Thank you in advance!

Password please!

Good enough. But really I need a password system.

One only thing to make this app perfect is Markdown preview support. Guys, this is *really important* thing. Some minor disadvantages: - I don’t think that … (more) button really needs. More intuitive to see all menu items (Pin to top, History etc) in context menu ("right" click on note in list) - It would be good to see "last modify" date of the note somewhere in header rather than in "more" menu.

tags for published in Web notes

Good app. Make tags for published notes please! It will help to see which notes are published now in Web and wich is not, and control it. Thanks.

Its great to have done, that the application is not closed. So much more convenient. Thank you so much.
