Web interface superior to desktop app
I like Simplenote. It’s an awesome service and has good Mac clients with nvAlt and Simplenote itself. If you think you need a folder structure for your notes, this is not it and I doubt you are using the app correctly; it does have Tags and a blazingly fast serach function, so no need for folders, really.
Yet, the current state of the Simplenote desktop app is well behind its web equivalent. The latter allows for a preview mode for Markdown-formatted text, and also allows to ‘unpublish’ notes. The history functionality also seems to work a lot better on the web, actually, which is surprising for a web app. I would love to see the desktop app to be brought up to par with the web interface. nvAlt hasn’t been updated in a long time, and this could become my go-to app for note taking.
Keep up the good work.
